2011 State Cup Champions

The Chugiak Cyclones girls' U-17 team won the State Cup in Fairbanks August 7th.

The Championship game was played against a strong '95 Eclipse team from Fairbanks. The Cyclones won the game with a convincing 3-0 score, despite playing in a strong wind and cold rain. This was the team's first state Championship, although they were runners-up in the State Cup in 2009 and 2010.

The team had a great summer! They began the season as runner-up in the Alaska Airlines Cup, losing in the Championship round to the same Eclipse team they beat in Fairbanks. The team also traveled to Salt Lake City for the Region IV Tournament, playing very well and progressing to the quarterfinal round.

Coach Paul Brehmer took over the team in July 2009, compiling an impressive record of achievements for the team since then. Coach Paul was assisted at the Presidents Cup by Matthias Slowick, who used to be the Director of Coaching for the CSC and is currently Coach/Trainer for the Austin Texans Soccer Club. The team also held a mini-camp in July, coached by Franklin Lawson. Franklin has coached girls' soccer at Georgia Perimeter College for 12 years and is also the Boy's Director of Coaching at the Georgia Futbol Club. The mini-camp was a huge success, with the players getting an end of season boost heading into the State Cup.

The Cyclones have players from Eagle River, Chugiak, Wasilla and Anchorage.
